The University of Warwick Sports and Wellness Hub is central to a vision for the most active community in the UK. The facility is designed to inspire and motivate everyone to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle. The result is stunning! The University of Warwick Sports and Wellness Hub is now the sporting centre of the campus.
Costing £36 million, the complex includes a feast of sporting facilities, with a 25 metre, 12 lane swimming pool taking centre stage. The Hub also boasts a 16 badminton court sized multi-sports hall, with fixed spectator seating plus 1,000 retractable seats. Added to this are a 15m climbing wall with 144 routes, 6 squash courts, a 230 station gym, fitness suites and multi-function studios.
World-class sporting facilities also need world-class washrooms, changing areas and showers. Therefore the University of Warwick Sports and Wellness Hub main contractor Willmott Dixon turned to Delta Laminates. The demanding brief called for high quality design and finishes. All washroom products must also withstand the rigours of constant use and abuse, as well as wet and humid environments. So Delta Laminates selected products from the Leisureline range, installing over £300,000 of materials.
Leisureline Washroom Cubicles are both stylish and robust, combining a high strength aluminium frame with tough solid grade laminate panels. Doors are finished in Formica Elegant Oak. This offers a bright and attractive woodgrain effect. Pilasters and partitions are finished in Formica Storm, delivering attractive contemporary styling, whilst complementing the RAL7024 frame and ironmongery. Cubicles also feature Delta’s APS Duct Wall to conceal all services, with lockable access panels for security. All are finished in the same Elegant Oak and Storm colour combination. Every washroom features Leisureline Vanity Units in solid grade laminate, some with APS Duct Wall behind the Storm finish vanity tops.
Individual Leisureline Shower Cubicles are designed to withstand the wet environment, whilst Coat Hook Rails are installed adjacent to all cubicles. All changing areas are also equipped with Leisureline Lockers. These are provided in a vast range of sizes to suit individual requirements – small lockers for personal possessions through to tall lockers for garment hanging. Large free standing and cantilevered Leisureline Benching are also provided in all changing areas. Individual Leisureline Changing Cubicles are provided in areas adjacent to the pool, offering additional privacy. All include integral benching and coat hook rails. Additional Leisureline lockers are provided throughout the facility. This ensures sufficient storage is available, even when the Hub and external sports pitches are being used to capacity.
The University of Warwick Sports and Wellness Hub provides a blueprint for all future sports facility development. Indeed the architect, David Morley Architects has already received the SAPCA (Sports & Play Construction Association) Award for Excellence, beating 16 other finalists. The Hub is also now the official training ground of Coventry Wasps Netball super-league team.
